Our Vision

For each that is born is a perfect gift, with their days numbered and filled with life’s circumstances, the good and bad.  When there is a need for that extra support, let our family become a part of yours.

The Establishment of Divine Destiny Doulas

Shaunta Franklin & Diana Johnson met over eight years ago while working for Community Home Care & Hospice.  They both absolutely adored what they were doing with the company, Shaunta as the Volunteer/Bereavement Coordinator and Diane as a Certified Nurses Assistant.  They would have been satisfied remaining in their fields, but both felt the Lord calling them for more.  Both ladies felt a longing around the same time and discussed what was the most meaningful parts of their jobs, and for both, it was supporting the patient and families through life’s journey and then ushering their clients onto their final destinies.

What a remarkable calling on their lives; they felt an increasing yearning to explore more of what they had to give.  They both became certified “Death Doulas” and awaited the Holy Spirit to give them cause to move.  The need of one family crying out in the dark was the catalyst for Divine Destiny Doulas being propelled into its purpose!

This formidable team was solidified for Mrs. Franklin when she and Mrs. Johnson was working on a case where a female patient was dying of cancer.  She and her husband were not native to Charlotte, so it was this man solely caring for his wife and watching her die on December 23rd; they had only become patients of the organization that day.

Diana and Shaunta arrived at the home later in the evening and had no intentions of staying long, but the husband made the excuse that he needed to go to the store.  He stayed gone for a great while, but the two instinctively knew he was gone to recharge and mourn out of the presence of his wife, who called on him repeatedly, and who was experiencing great discomfort.  Diana and Shaunta stroked, consoled, and prayed over their patient.

As Shaunta stroked the patient’s arm and sang, Diana kicked off her shoes and crawled onto the bed next to the patient and held her. The singing continued, and the holding went on, and eventually, the precious soul was able to sleep.  It was at that moment for them both, that they knew they had been used for the greater good of this anguished husband and this beautiful wife who had but three days of life left.  Mere words cannot express the moment the team came to life!

Shaunta Franklin

CO-CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER | END-OF-LIFE DOULA

Shaunta Franklin has an undergrad in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and a Masters in Human Relations.  Her purpose was born from having the privilege of ushering her father through his life-limiting illness of cancer when he was 54 years old.  At that point, that was the most beautiful spiritual thing she had ever experienced, and just four years ago she had the privilege of doing the same for her best friend, her mother.

What struck Shaunta in being privileged to work with the sick and dying was, there was a way to care for people correctly!  She and her mother always told each other, we wake up every day to live, and then we live until we die. That was their mantra, and now it is hers alone.

It is always her goal to infuse laughter and hope into the lives of anyone that she meets regardless of how sick they may be. Illness is hard in and of itself, but the culmination of one’s life is not defined by illness alone. They can still dream, strive, love, and live victoriously, and Mrs. Franklin was born to help them do so.

CO-CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER | END-OF-LIFE DOULA

Mrs. Johnson is a servant by nature.  She commands the room when she works with patients, and she has the God-given gift to make her patients feel safe and loved.

Immediately after becoming a certified nurse's assistant, Diana was privileged to care for her grandmother who died from brain cancer.

Diana wanted to become a nurse, but her life changed courses and she discovered her purpose in becoming a Certified Nurses Assistant.

She found joy in providing patients with the most intimate of care.  Instinctively she knew that doing this job was not for everyone, but it was absolutely what she should be doing.

Our Team

I now understand the phrase “there are angels among us”. Several months ago as an only child of elderly parents, I learned two of the most important lessons of my life. I simply cannot “do it all” and “it is ok to ask for help”.

As I saw the decline in Daddy and Mother’s health, I began to ask God to please send me someone who would love my parents and care for them as though we were all family. Over the last few years, we had part- time help in my parents’ home through agencies, but for many reasons things just never felt comfortable.

One day as I was feeling so defeated and was speaking with our Hospice CNA Diane Johnson and our social worker when they sensed my panic. I admitted I could no longer continue to manage it all. Diane shared with me the beautiful name of Shaunta Franklin. I spoke with Shaunta several times and as we spoke and prayed together we soon realized this was God’s plan that her agency would come to help. After the first 24 hours in my parent’s home she got the nickname “Sunshine” and through the losses of my family she and Diane have been with us every step of the way. You see, these two are strong Christian women who are not only a “caregivers” as they are our “Sunshine” and my “Sisters” in and through Christ. The difference is, within this agency their staff members are all followers of Christ. They share openly that with every decision regarding their business they ask for God’s guidance, His blessings followed up by giving Him all the praise.

My prayer is others will also learn the valuable lessons that I have learned. Divine Destiny Doulas is a blessing to our family and the staff is a part of our family. There are “Angels among Us” and we are blessed to have them as a part of our family. As an only child trying to “do it all” it is ok to admit additional help is needed and ok feel the relief when we find an agency like Divine Destiny Doulas.
